The 2nd most successful padel champion in history will be in Knokke-Heist.
Juan Martin Diaz, a name that probably won’t mean anything to you unless you are a padel purist.
Born on 28 November 1975 in Mar de Plata, Argentina, the 46 year old still professional player still shakes the best pairs in the world with his experience.
If we talk about padel, about Argentina, one name often comes up… Bela or Fernando Belasteguin.
So yes, Bela is the most famous Argentine on the circuit and has a record worthy of Roger Federer, but Juan Martin Diaz is close behind him, having been world number one for 14 years.
And if he has such an impressive record, we’ll let you guess who he was paired with during those titles…Bela of course.
In terms of statistics, JM Diaz is :
– a professional career started in 1994
– World number 1 for 14 years
– 354 official matches played on the World Padel Tour
– 261 wins
– 93 defeats
– 73.8% win rate
– Consecutive winning streak of 33 matches
– 9 tournament wins in 2014
– nicknamed « the wall » because he is impassable at the net.
Paired with Bela for almost 13 years (2001-2014), they dominated the circuit from top to bottom with 170 wins in 190 finals played, they won 22 consecutive tournaments and a 21-month unbeaten streak.
